Rams Drop Skyline Matchup at Maritime

Maritime - 13, Farmingdale State - 10


Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team squared off against Maritime in a conference road game on Friday night and fell, 13-10. The Privateers improved to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the Skyline and have clinched home field advantage for the playoffs.

Tied 2-2 with 4:30 remaining in the first, Maritime recorded three straight scores with goals by Michael Petty (Port Washington, N.Y.), Bryan Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Ian Ziemski (Bel Air, Md.) to go out in front by three.

Trailing 6-2 with 8:33 left to play in the second quarter, FSC (10-5, 3-2) junior midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) netted the pass from freshman attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) to pull the Rams within three. After back-to-back Maritime goals, Farmingdale State's James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) tallied the final score of the quarter as the Rams went into halftime trailing, 8-4.

With 12:21 remaining in the third and FSC down 10-4, the Rams answered with four consecutive goals by Peter Engelken (Holtsville, N.Y.) (2), Richard Russo (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Fitzgerald to close within two. Over the final 35 seconds of the third, MT notched a pair of goals to bring the advantage back to four, 13-9.

In a defensive fourth quarter where each team took 10 shots, Ragland scored the only goal as the Rams were defeated, 13-10.

Fitzgerald totaled four points on three goals and one assist, while junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored one goal and had three assists for four points. Russo, Ragland and Engelken each finished the night with two goals for Farmingdale State.

The Privateers were led by sophomore attack Mike Leake (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) who recorded a game-high five points on three goals and two assists.

FSC senior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) had 17 saves, while senior Justin Weigold (Huntington, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots for Maritime.

The Rams will close out the regular season this afternoon with a road game at Mount Saint Vincent starting at 1:00 p.m.
