Farmingdale State - 15, SUNY Delhi - 8
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team won a non-conference home game versus SUNY Delhi this afternoon, 15-8. FSC has won their sixth straight game and now sits at 9-3 overall, while the Broncos dropped to 9-4.
Delhi started quickly as junior attack John Rohan III (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded the first two goals of the game to put the Broncos ahead 2-0.
Still trailing by two with 5:36 left in the first quarter, Farmingdale State senior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) set up junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) for a goal to cut the deficit to one. Sandorfi would tally his second goal just 1:20 later to tie the game at 2-2.
FSC opened the scoring in the second quarter with back-to-back goals by Clark and sophomore midfielder Richard Russo (Wantagh, N.Y.) to take a 4-2 advantage.
The Rams took a 5-2 lead after senior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) made a save with 5:26 left in the second and quickly passed it ahead to junior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) who sprinted up the field for the shot and goal.
Farmingdale State led 6-3 at the halftime break and held a 27-19 shot advantage in the first 30 minutes of play.
Over the first 6:24 of the second half, the Broncos outscored FSC, 2-1, as senior midfielder Malik Talbert (Valley Stream, N.Y.) registered a pair of goals. The Rams answered by scoring the next three goals to open up a 10-5 advantage.
Over the final 3:15 of the third quarter, Delhi sophomore midfielder Ross Cange (East Moriches, N.Y.) and Talbert both scored as they entered the fourth trailing by three, 10-7.
FSC led 11-8 with 10 minutes remaining and used scores from Clark, Russo, junior midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.), and senior attack Sean Gannon (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to secure the 15-8 non-conference victory.
Clark registered a team-high five points on three goals and two assists, while both Sandorfi (3g, 1a) and senior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) (1g, 3a) had four points apiece. Fitzgerald finished with two goals, one assist and three groundballs and McMahon notched a goal and a team-high nine ground balls. Defenders Brandon Felice (Smithtown, N.Y.), Brodie Culkin (West Islip, N.Y.) and Chris Kouimanis (Holbrook, N.Y.) each registered two caused turnovers in the win.
For SUNY Delhi, Talbert produced a game-high six points on five goals and one assist, while freshman midfielder Nick Dower (Oneonta, N.Y.) won 14 faceoffs and picked up 11 ground balls.
FSC next travels to play Skyline opponent Purchase College on Saturday, April 13th at noon.
