Farmingdale State - 11, Mount Saint Mary - 6
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC men's lacrosse team earned an 11-6 home Skyline victory over Mount Saint Mary College this afternoon. Farmingdale State senior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) stopped 13-of-19 shots on goal to lead the Rams to the five-goal win. FSC improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Knights dropped to 3-8, 0-1.
Tied at 1-1 with just over four minutes to play in the first, Farmingdale State senior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead by one with a goal off the feed from senior attack Sean Gannon (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). Only 2:15 later, FSC junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) set up freshman attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) for a goal to give the Rams a 3-1 edge.
In a low-scoring second quarter, Farmingdale State tallied two unanswered goals. With 4:40 left, junior midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored from junior midfielder Joe Watson (Brentwood, N.Y.) to take a three-goal lead. After a turnover by Mount Saint Mary allowed the Rams to gain possession in the final minute, Clark scored his second goal of the game with 1.2 seconds on the clock to go in front, 5-1.
Trailing 6-1 early in the third, the Knights used back-to-back scores by junior attacks Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) to cut their deficit to three. The Rams would answer with goals from Sandorfi and senior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) to regain a five-goal lead at 8-3.
Down 9-4 at the start of the fourth quarter, Maraio and junior midfielder Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.) both scored for MSMC to close within three, 9-6. Wood would hold the Knights scoreless over the final 12:52, making four saves, as the Rams went on for the 11-6 Skyline Conference victory.
Clark produced a game-high three goals, while Fitzgerald and Ragland recorded two goals and one assist each. Junior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) registered a goal, three ground balls, two faceoff wins and a team-high three caused turnovers and Sandorfi finished with one goal, one assist and two ground balls. Defenders Brodie Culkin (West Islip, N.Y.) and Dan Panzarino (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up five ground balls apiece in the win.
Maraio led the way for Mount Saint Mary with a team-high three points (2g, 1a).
FSC next hosts non-conference opponent SUNY Delhi on Wednesday, April 10th at 4:00 p.m.
