Farmingdale State - 21, Keystone - 2
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team cruised to a 21-2 non-conference victory over Keystone College this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.
The Rams (6-3) opened the scoring with a goal by junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) off the feed from Jake Satterley (West Babylon, N.Y.). Less than a minute later with 11:43 remaining in the first, FSC went out in front 2-0 after Satterley netted Sandorfi's pass.
Leading 5-0 with 4:39 left to play in the quarter, the Rams closed with a pair of Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) goals and one by Sandorfi to go on top, 8-0, after one. Farmingdale State out shot the Giants (0-5) 11-1 and held a 14-5 ground ball advantage in the first.
Keystone recorded their first goal of the contest at the 14:16 mark of the second quarter on an unassisted score by junior midfielder Jordan Smith (Dundalk, Md.). FSC answered with a goal by senior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) and two from senior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) as they took an 11-1 lead into the break.
Over the first 3:55 of the third quarter, the Rams went out in front by 13 after Sandorfi and senior attack Sean Gannon (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) each tallied goals.
With 5:38 remaining in the third and Farmingdale State leading 15-1, freshman midfielder Peter Engelken (Holtsville, N.Y.), junior midfielder Joe Watson (Brentwood, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Casey Romano (Yaphank, N.Y.) each scored as the Rams entered the fourth ahead, 18-1.
FSC outscored Keystone 3-1 in the final quarter en route to the 21-2 victory. The Rams were 21-of-27 on faceoffs, held a 54-4 shot advantage and picked up 57 ground balls compared to 22 by the Giants.
Sandorfi had a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists to go along with five ground balls, while Ragland scored four times. Satterley added two goals, two assists and five ground balls and Fitzgerald notched two goals and three assists for five points. Gannon (1G & 3A) and Watson (3G & 1A) each recorded a career-best four points and Watson also picked up a game-high eight ground balls. Defensively, senior Dan Panzarino (Oceanside, N.Y.) caused a career-high five turnovers and had three ground balls in the win.
FSC next will host St. Joseph's-LI in their Skyline Conference opener on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
