Rams Edge St. Joseph's-LI in Skyline Opener

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC men's lacrosse team trailed 8-7 early in the fourth quarter but scored the final two goals of the game to earn the 9-8 victory over St. Joseph's-LI this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. With the win, the Rams now stand at 7-3 overall and 1-0 in conference action, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 3-6, 0-1.

Trailing 4-3 with 12:51 left to play in the third quarter, Farmingdale State's Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) netted the pass from Jake Satterley (West Babylon, N.Y.) to tie the game. The Golden Eagles responded with back-to-back scores by sophomore midfielder Mike McCarthy (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and freshman attack Tim McCann (East Islip, N.Y.) to go out in front by two, 6-4, with 4:43 remaining on the clock.

FSC freshman attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) tallied the next two goals, including one man-up opportunity, to even the score at 6-6 with 1:08 left in the third. Only 30 seconds later, SJC-LI freshman attack Anthony Passarella (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scored off the pass from McCarthy to put the Golden Eagles back on top by one.

St. Joe's-LI won the next faceoff but Farmingdale State freshman defender Nick Bucholz (Holbrook, N.Y.) quickly forced a turnover. After picking up the ground ball, Bucholz threw a long pass down the field to Wandle who dumped the ball off to junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) for the game-tying goal with nine seconds remaining in the third quarter.

An unassisted score by McCarthy with 10:21 on the clock gave the Golden Eagles a one-goal advantage before Satterley answered and tied the game at 8-8.

With 1:46 remaining in the fourth quarter, FSC freshman midfielder Peter Engelken (Holtsville, N.Y.) sent home the game-winning goal off the pass by senior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) as the Rams opened conference play with a 9-8 victory.

Wandle finished the night with four points on three goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) notched a game-high three assists. Ragland (1G, 2A) and Satterley (2G, 1A) each added three points and junior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) caused four turnovers and picked up six ground balls.

For the Golden Eagles, McCarthy scored three goals and had two assists for a game-high five points, while junior Declan Canevari (Lake Grove, N.Y.) was 16-of-18 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high nine ground balls.

Farmingdale State senior goalkeeper Dan Wood (East Meadow, N.Y.) stopped eight shots in the win, while freshman Andrew Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) had 13 saves for St. Joe's-LI.

The Rams next will host Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary on Saturday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m.
