Rams Defeat Alfred State in Non-Conference Matchup

Farmingdale State - 22, Alfred State - 3


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team hosted Alfred State this afternoon in a non-conference game and earned a 22-3 victory.

After FSC (4-3) junior midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) notched the first goal of the game, senior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) followed with three straight scores to put the Rams on top, 4-0, with 4:58 remaining in the first quarter. Alfred State (1-3) senior attack Joe Johnson (North Chili, N.Y.) tallied the final two goals of the first to cut the deficit in half.

Farmingdale State dominated the second quarter after outscoring the Pioneers 8-0 as freshman attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scored three goals and Fitzgerald had two. In the first half, the Rams out shot Alfred State 29-7 and picked up 31 ground balls compared to 17 by the Pioneers.

Over the first 2:46 of the third quarter, Jake Satterley (West Babylon, N.Y.), Fitzgerald and Kyle Josefson (Holbrook, N.Y.) each scored for FSC to extend the advantage to 15-2.

Leading 18-3 with 11:48 left to play in the game, Farmingdale State closed with four straight goals to cap off the 22-3 win.

Junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led the way for FSC with seven points on a goal and six assists, while Fitzgerald scored four goals. Wandle and Ragland each had five points on three goals and a pair of assists and junior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) was 13-for-15 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high 12 ground balls. Senior midfielder Doug Hellberg (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded a career-high nine ground balls and was 8-of-9 on faceoffs in the victory for FSC.

For Alfred State, Johnson scored all three goals and had three ground balls.

The Rams next will square off against Calvin at North East Regional Park in Davenport, Florida on Wednesday, March 20th at 1:00 p.m.
