FSC Opens 2019 Season with Home Win Over Mitchell

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season today with a 24-6 home victory over non-conference opponent Mitchell College.

FSC (1-0) junior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal less than four minutes into the game. With 9:18 left to play in the first, a man-up goal by junior midfielder Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) off the feed from AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) gave the Rams a 2-0 advantage. FSC added a pair of goals by junior attack Jake Satterley (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Fitzgerald over the final 7:33 of the quarter to extend the lead to 4-0.

After a Jade Shields (Hempstead, N.Y.) goal to start the second for Mitchell (0-1), Farmingdale State responded with back-to-back scores by freshman midfielder Peter Engelken (Holtsville, N.Y.) and senior midfielder James Ragland (Seaford, N.Y.) to go out in front, 6-1, with 12:50 remaining.

Leading 6-2, the Rams closed the half with four unanswered goals to take a 10-2 advantage into halftime. In the first half for FSC, Fitzgerald led the way with three goals and one assist and senior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) tallied three assists.

In a third quarter dominated by Farmingdale State, seven different players scored, including Satterley netting a pair, as the Rams went into the fourth quarter on top, 18-2. FSC outscored the Mariners 6-4 in the fourth en route to the 24-6 season-opening win.

Satterley and freshman attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) each notched a game-high five points on three goals and two assists, while Ragland and Fitzgerald had three goals and one assist apiece. Junior midfielder Christian Stalter (Miller Place, N.Y.) was 16-of-17 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high nine groundballs and sophomore defender Brodie Culkin (West Islip, N.Y.) caused three turnovers in the victory.

For Mitchell, Kyle Marsh (Oakdale, Conn.) and Jacob Anderson (New Milford, Conn.) each scored a team-high two goals, while freshman attack Ethan LePain (Coventry, R.I.) tied FSC's Clark with a game-high four assists.

The Rams next will travel to Manhattanville for a non-conference game on Wednesday, February 27th at 6:00 p.m.
