Men's Tennis Drops 5-4 Decision at Manhattanville

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team traveled to Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon and was narrowly defeated, 5-4. The Rams suffered their first loss in Skyline play and dropped to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

FSC opened the match with two-of-three points in doubles competition.

Senior Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and freshman Ryan Hendel (North Merrick, N.Y.) teamed up in the top-flight match and took an 8-6 decision over Manhattanville's (4-4, 3-0 Skyline) James Hourihan and Westin Goodwin.

In the second match, junior Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and senior Muhammad Sawar (Brentwood, N.Y.) defeated Dylan Crowley and Max Moeller by a score of 8-6.

The third pairing of senior Matthew Olkhovetsky (Great Neck, N.Y.) and sophomore Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.) lost to Valiants Jaime Peredo and Shiel Loganadan, 8-3, as FSC held a 2-1 advantage heading to singles.

Baker quickly picked up FSC's third point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hourihan, while Loganadan earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sawar in the fourth position.

In the #2 singles match, Sabovic earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Luis Gonzalez as the Rams took a 4-2 advantage.

Manhattanville defeated FSC in the third, fifth and sixth matches -- each in three sets -- to pick up the 5-4 victory.

Crowley knocked off Olkhovetsky at No. 5 in a match that had two tiebreakers, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-3) and 6-4, while Manzi lost to Peredo 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the sixth slot. Hendel was bested by Goodwin in the deciding match, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 3 flight to close out play.

The Rams will next play host to non-conference opponent Hunter College on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m.
