Head Coach: Adam Waterhouse (16th season)

Adam Waterhouse was hired in the Fall of 2006 with the opportunity to develop Farmingdale State's men's and women's tennis programs from scratch. In their first Varsity season (2007-08), he led the women to a 4-5 record and the men to a 5-7 record, both making appearances in the Conference Tournament.

Coach Waterhouse has earned Skyline Conference Coach of the Year honors 11 times in his career - 2008-09 (men), 2010-11 (men), 2011-12 (men), 2012-13 (women & men), 2015-16 (women), 2018-19 (men), 2019-20 (women), 2021 (men & women), 2022 (women).

With the men's team, Farmingdale State captured five Skyline Conference Championships (2011, 2012, 2013, 2021, 2023) and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament five times under Coach Waterhouse. He currently holds a career record of 120-68 with the men's team.

The women's team has captured seven Conference Championships (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022), advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Coach Waterhouse currently holds a career record of 146-70 with the women's team.

Coach was born and raised in Plattsburgh, N.Y. and is a 1980 graduate of Plattsburgh High School, where he qualified for the New York State High School Championships three of his four years (1978, 1979, 1980). He received a Bachelor's degree in Biology from SUNY Oswego in 1984. At Oswego, he played four years of tennis and was a team captain in '83 and '84.

After college, Adam has been a part-time tennis pro and was the head coach of the boy's and girl's tennis team at Plainedge High School from 1989-2006. Since 2002, he has been the Director of three annual summer tennis camps through Long Island Sports Camps.

Coach Waterhouse retired in 2018 after serving as the Coordinator of the Science Department at Plainedge High School as well as teaching college level Biology. He resides in Massapequa Park with his wife, Denise, and three kids, Joseph, Katie and Matthew.

Associate Head Coach: Rich Hume (8th season)

Rich Hume started at the College in 1982 in the Division of Administration & Finance in the Student Accounts Office, eventually becoming the College Controller before retiring in 2015.  Rich always had a strong connection to the Athletics Department, having been the Assistant Women’s Basketball coach from 1991 through 1999 as well as serving as the chair of the Intercollegiate Athletics Board (IAB) from 2002 through his retirement in 2015.  He continues currently as a member of the IAB. 

Upon his retirement in 2015 he was named as the Assistant Men & Women’s tennis coach, serving alongside Coach Adam Waterhouse.  He was named as the Associate Head Coach as of the start of the 2021-22 season.

Rich comes from a tennis family, and has had a long tennis background, including serving as President of the Tennis Association of Farmingdale (a USTA community service organization) since 2015.  He also participates in USTA team tennis, and has been a member of several teams that have competed at the National Championships for the USTA.

Rich resides in Lindenhurst with his wife, Janet, is the father of Michael and Jessica, and also the proud grandfather of two granddaughters, Josephine and Coraline.
