Men's Tennis Earns Shutout Versus WestConn

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 shutout victory over non-conference opponent Western Connecticut on Friday afternoon. The Rams improved to 6-2 overall, while the Wolves dropped to 3-5.

In double competition, FSC's #1 pairing of senior Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and freshman Ryan Hendel (North Merrick, N.Y.) and #2 pairing of junior Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and senior Muhammad Sawar (Brentwood, N.Y.) both earned 8-1 victories. The third duo of senior Michael Baranowski (South Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Ethan Cintron (Bayside, N.Y.) followed with an 8-0 win as the Rams jumped out to a 3-0 edge.

In singles play, Baker did not lose a game in the top-flight match and won 6-0, 6-0 before Sawar recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win in the fourth position to clinch the match.

Sabovic (6-1, 6-0) and Hendel (6-0, 6-2) tallied victories in the second and third singles matches, respectively, while sophomore Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.) won in the #6 position, 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Matthew Olkhovetsky (Great Neck, N.Y.) finished the shutout with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #5 singles as Farmingdale State earned the 9-0 win.

The men's tennis team next returns to Skyline Conference action with a match at Manhattanville tomorrow, Saturday, April 8th at noon.
