Men's Tennis Defeats FDU-Florham, 6-3

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team captured four out of its six singles matches Tuesday afternoon, en route to a 6-3 victory over visiting Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham in the season-opening match for both squads.

The host Rams (1-0) went into singles play up 2-1 after a pair of triumphs in doubles competition. In the top flight, sophomores Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Muhammad Sawar (Brentwood, N.Y.) knocked off the Devils' (0-1) tandem of Joni Carasso and Kelvin Liwag by an 8-2 score, while sophomore Ethan Cintron (Bayside, N.Y.) and senior Matthew Olkhovetsky (Great Neck, N.Y.) bested Jaden Andresen and Matt Kolongowski by an 8-6 count.

Olkhovetsky (6-2, 6-1) took out Liwag in the No. 4 singles flight, while sophomore Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.) defeated his No. 5-flight opponent, Saini Karanveer, by a 6-2, 6-3 margin. Freshman Ryan Hendel (No. Merrick, N.Y.) won his singles debut at No. 2 versus Matthew Emery, 6-3 and 6-4, with sophomore Gabriel Durkin (No. Babylon, N.Y.) rounding out FSC's singles winners with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 6 against Andresen.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are slated to wrap up the fall portion of their schedule on Sept. 30 (Fri.), when they travel to Garden City, N.Y., for a 2 p.m. first serve at Adelphi University.
