FSC Rolls Past Purchase on Senior Night

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team earned a 22-4 victory over Purchase College in their regular season finale this evening. The Rams finish with an 11-3 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the Skyline Conference. FSC has clinched a playoff spot and awaits their semifinals opponent.

It was senior night at FSC and a special pregame ceremony was held to honor Tyler Barnes (Selden, N.Y.), Nick Bucholz (Holbrook, N.Y.), Jack Conklin (Wantagh, N.Y.), Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.), Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) and John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) who were playing in their final regular season home game.

The Rams opened with seven unanswered goals over the first 8:27. Junior midfielder Hunter Lyons (East Islip, N.Y.) and Haggerty notched back-to-back unassisted goals, beofre freshman midfielder Danny Snow (East Meadow, N.Y.) set up Johnny McMahon for a score. Sophomore attack Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y) recorded a goal off the feed from Lyons with 9:59 on the clock and Haggerty followed with a pair to go in front, 6-0. Haggerty set up Johnny McMahon for the Rams seventh goal with 7:33 to play in the first quarter.

After senior midfielder Ben Erkan (Bellport, N.Y.) put Purchase (5-9, 0-7 Skyline) on the board, FSC senior attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) netted passes from Haggerty and Lyons as the Rams took a 9-1 advantage into the second quarter.

Freshman midfielder Michael Cassano (Plainview, N.Y.) assisted a Haggerty goal before scoring one of his own to start the second quarter.

Leading 11-2, junior midfielder John Carnevale (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded his first assist of the season on a Haggerty score to put Farmingdale State ahead by 10.

The Rams took a 13-2 advantage into the break and opened the third quarter with goals from Lyons, Johnny McMahon, John McMahon and Carnevale.

Following a goal by the Panthers, freshman attack Joe Colao (Middle Island, N.Y.) scored to put FSC in front, 18-3.

Farmingdale State outscored Purchase 4-1 in the fourth quarter behind goals from John McMahon, Barnes, junior midfielder Trey Connolly (Seaford, N.Y.) and Colao as they went on for the 22-4 victory.

Haggerty finished with a game-high eight points on five goals and three assists, while Wandle notched two goals and three assists for five points. Lyons (2g, 2a) and Johnny McMahon (4g) had four points apiece and John McMahon tallied two goals, one assist, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Cassano recorded a season-best three points on a goal and two assists, while Carnavale and Connolly each added a goal and one assist. Colao notched two goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover in the win.

On defense, junior Gino Luchetti (Farmingville, N.Y.) had three ground balls and one caused turnover.

FSC goalkeeper Kevin Loonie (Lynbrook, N.Y.) played just over 30 minutes and stopped four shots en route to his 11th win of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, NY.) controlled face offs as he was 19-for-24 and picked up a game-high 12 ground balls.

Farmingdale State has clinched a spot in the Skyline Conference Championship and awaits the results from tomorrow's games to determine their seed.
