FSC Defeats Skyline Opponent SJC-LI in Legends Game

Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team traveled to St. Joseph's-Long Island for a Skyline Conference game this afternoon and won, 12-7. The Rams improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 3-4, 0-1.

Prior to the game, St. Joseph's-LI and Farmingdale State honored lacrosse legends Tom Postel, Jack Kaley, Ralph Pepe and Mike Thearle as part of today's "Legends Game".

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first 9:38 of the first quarter. Senior attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back goals off passes from Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) and John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.). Junior midfielder Hunter Lyons (East Islip, N.Y.) recorded the Rams third goal, unassisted, with 5:22 on the clock.

Over the next 11 minutes of game play, Golden Eagles junior attack Jack Gilbride (East Moriches, N.Y.) recorded four unanswered goals to give SJC-LI a 4-3 advantage.

With 6:36 to play in the second quarter, FSC senior attack Rob Varello (Smithtown, N.Y.) notched an unassisted, man-up score to tie the game at 4-4.

Just 3:43 later, Haggerty set up Lyons for a goal to put the Rams in front, 5-4.

After the Golden Eagles tied the score at 5-5, Farmingdale State scored four straight goals to open the third quarter to take a 9-5 advantage. Varello, sophomore attack Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.), senior midfielder Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.), and Haggerty each scored for FSC.

SJC-LI senior midfielder Matt Trautman (Islip, N.Y.) responded with a goal before setting up teammate Robert Lopez (Shirley, N.Y.) for a score to cut the deficit to 9-7 with 1:58 left in the third.

In the final minute of the quarter, Stock scored to put FSC in front, 10-7, heading into the fourth.

Farmingdale State would add goals from freshman midfielder Steven DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Haggerty, while holding the Golden Eagles scoreless, in the final quarter as they went on for the 12-7 victory.

Haggerty finished with a game-high five points on two goals and three assists, while Wandle notched two goals and an assist. Lyons, Varello and Stock tallied two goals apiece and Johnny McMahon added a goal and one assist.

Sophomore midfielder Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded 11 faceoff wins, eight ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Kevin Loonie (Lynbrook, N.Y.) (W, 8-1) registered nine saves in the win.

FSC will next travel to Kings Point, N.Y. to play Skyline Conference opponent Merchant Marine on Tuesday, April 12th at 7:00 p.m.
