DeSales - 8, Farmingdale State - 7
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State hosted DeSales in a non-conference men's lacrosse game this afternoon and fell, 8-7. FSC freshman goalkeeper Kevin Loonie (Lynbrook, N.Y.) stopped a career-high 21 shots in defeat.
The Rams (3-1) trailed 2-1 just under eight minutes in and used an unassisted goal from sophomore midfielder Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.) to tie the score.
Just 3:54 later, a goal by FSC sophomore attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) off the pass from senior attack Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State ahead, 3-2.
The Bulldogs (3-1) responded with goals from freshman attack Nate Perry (Corning, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Sean Wiser (Binghamton, N.Y.) as they took a 4-3 advantage.
FSC outscored DeSales, 3-1, in the second quarter on goals from Haggerty, McMahon and freshman midfielder Hunter Lyons (East Islip, N.Y.) to go in front, 6-5, heading into the halftime break.
The Rams still led 6-5 with 9:56 left in the third quarter before Lyons set up Haggerty for a goal to push the Farmingdale State advantage to two.
With just six seconds left in the third, Bulldogs senior attack Zach Bowen (Middletown, DE) notched a goal from sophomore midfielder Pat Schuett (Holbrook, N.Y.) to cut their deficit to just one, 7-6.
The game remained 7-6 until 3:18 left in the fourth quarter when DeSales junior midfielder Domenic Maria (Perry Hall, Md.) picked up a ground ball off a rebounded shot and scored to tie the game at 7-7.
Only 1:16 later, Perry scored his second goal of the game to give DeSales an 8-7 advantage.
After FSC won the ensuing faceoff, a turnover allowed the Bulldogs to gain possession.
DeSales ran out the final 1:01 as they went on for the 8-7 non-conference victory.
Haggerty recorded three points on two goals and an assist, while McMahon tallied two goals, one caused turnover and a game-high seven ground balls. Wandle (2 g) and Lyons (1 g, 1 a) finished with two points apiece. Freshman defender Gino Luchetti (Farmingville, N.Y.) recorded three caused turnovers and two ground balls and freshman defender Christian Lembo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) caused a turnover and had four ground balls.
Loonie stopped 21-of-29 shots on goal (.724) and caused two turnovers with two ground balls for Farmingdale State.
The Rams next travel to play Anna Maria in a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 15th at 7:00 p.m.
