Farmingdale State - 15, Neumann - 10
Aston, Penn. - Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Peter Engelken (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals to lead the FSC men's lacrosse team to a 15-10 non-conference victory over Neumann this afternoon. With the win, the Rams improved to 2-1 overall this season.
Farmingdale State got on the board early as junior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored off the feed from senior attack Shane Clark (Oceanside, N.Y.) just 47 second in to go up 1-0. Over the next 6:45, FSC extended their lead to 4-0 with two unassisted scores from Engelken and a goal from sophomore midfielder Richard Russo (Wantagh, N.Y.).
After the Knights (2-2) tallied back-to-back scores to cut their deficit to just two, the Rams closed the quarter with a Dylan Fitzgerald (Farmingdale, N.Y.) goal and a man-down score from Engelken to take a 6-2 advantage heading into the second.
Neumann opened the second quarter with a pair of goals from freshman attack Wyatt Belotti (Boca Raton, Fla.) before FSC used goals from Russo, Engelken and freshman attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) to go in front, 9-4.
Farmingdale State entered the halftime break leading by four, 9-5, and outscored the Knights 4-1 in the third quarter to take a commanding 13-6 advantage. Clark, sophomore midfielder John Feiner (Farmingdale, N.Y.), junior attack AJ Sandorfi (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Engelken all registered unassisted goals in the quarter.
Despite being outscored 4-2 in the fourth, the Rams held on for the non-conference win, 15-10.
Russo finished the day with three points on two goals and one assist, while Sandorfi notched two goals and four ground balls. Clark and Fitzgerald tallied one goal and one assist apiece and McMahon recorded one goal, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Defenders Jack Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Dan Panzarino (Oceanside, N.Y.) produced three caused turnovers each in the victory.
For Neumann, Belotti led the way with a team-high three goals.
Farmingdale State next travels to SUNY Poly for a non-conference game on Thursday, March 7th at 4:00 p.m.
