Rams Earn Victory over Maritime on Senior Night

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team earned a 12-6 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime on senior night this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Senior's Mike Strebel (East Northport, N.Y.), Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.), Matt Polizzano (Baldwin, N.Y.), Nicholas Mattei (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Jonathan Filiberto (East Northport, N.Y.) Philip Schaefer* (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Tim Kelly (Hicksville, N.Y.) were each honored before the game.

Leading 2-0 late in the first period, Schaefer recorded back-to-back unassisted goals to extend the Rams (8-6, 3-2) advantage to 4-0.

With 10:45 remaining in the second, junior midfielder Derrick Sherrod (Huntington, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted score and Schaefer followed with his third goal of the game as Farmingdale State went ahead 6-0. Maritime (6-8, 2-4) outscored the Rams 2-1 over the final 7:23 of the half as Farmingdale State took a 7-2 lead into the break.

After the Privateers closed within three, 7-4, Farmingdale State freshman attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) ended the third period with a score off Sherrod's pass to bring the lead back to four.

Schaefer and Strebel recorded goals early in the fourth period to open up a 10-4 Rams advantage. Each team scored twice over the final 9:01 as Farmingdale State earned the 12-6 victory on senior night.

Schaefer recorded a game-high five points on four goals and one assist, while also picking up a team-leading five ground balls. Sophomore attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.) scored twice and had a pair of assists, while Cegielski and junior attack Conor Pittard (Setauket, N.Y.) each had two goals. Freshman defender Nick Perrone (Northport, N.Y.) caused a game-high four turnovers for the Rams.

Maritime was led by freshman attack Ian Danahy (West Nyack, N.Y.) who scored three goals and junior midfielder Matt Hayes' (Baldwin, N.Y.) 12 ground balls and 14 face-off wins.

Junior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) stopped 13 shots in 57 minutes of action for the Rams, while freshman Brendan McNally (Long Beach, N.Y.) had 12 saves for the Privateers.
