Schaefer and Cegielski Lead Rams Past MSMC

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior attack Philip Schaefer* (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored five goals and had three assists, while freshman attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) recorded six points on four goals and two assists as the Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team defeated Mount Saint Mary, 17-11.

The Rams (7-6, 2-2) trailed 4-1 late in the first period, before a Conor Pittard (Setauket, N.Y.) goal cut the Farmingdale State deficit to two.

Only 54 seconds into the second period, junior attack Brad Rapone (Roslyn, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted score to pull the Rams within one, 4-3. After a man-up goal by Mount Saint Mary's (4-9, 1-3) Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.), Farmingdale State closed the half with seven unanswered goals to take a 10-5 advantage into the break.

Cegielski scored 19 seconds into the third period and Schaefer followed with a man-down goal to extend the lead to 12-5. The Rams led by as many as nine in the fourth period as they earned the 17-11 conference victory.

Senior midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) won 12 face-offs, picked up a game-high five ground balls, caused three turnovers and added one goal and an assist. Junior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) recorded eight saves in 57 minutes of action for Farmingdale State.

The Knights were led by De Meo who finished the game with a team-high five goals and one assist.

The Rams next will host Maritime for Senior Night on Wednesday, April 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
