Five Straight in Fourth Leads Rams to Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team scored the first five goals of the fourth period en route to a 12-8 victory today over visiting FDU-Florham. The Rams improved to 5-2 overall with the win, while the Devils drop to 2-4.

Junior midfielder Derrick Sherrod (Huntington, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the first off an assist from junior attack Brad Rapone (Roslyn, N.Y.) for a 1-0 lead, before freshman attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) made it 2-0 Rams three minutes later. FDU got on the board at the 7-minute mark with a goal from freshman attack David Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.), but junior attack Conor Pittard (Setauket, N.Y.) made it 3-1 Farmingdale at 1:17 in the first.

FDU's junior attackman Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa.) added a goal for FDU in the second, before senior attack Philip Schaefer* (Holbrook, N.Y.) closed out the period with two goals and the Rams would lead 5-2 at the halftime break.

FDU outscored Farmingdale State 4-2 in the third, with a game-tying goal by senior midfielder Nick Ardolino (Florham Park, N.J.) with 7:13 left in the period to make it 6-6. Rapone put the Rams ahead 7-6 with 4:03 remaining in the third.

In the fourth, five straight Farmingdale State goals put the game out of reach as the Rams held a 12-6 advantage with only 2:26 left to play. FDU would get two goals back over the final minutes, but the Rams held on for the 12-8 non-conference win.

Senior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) made 14 saves, while freshman goalkeeper Connor Evans (Ringwood, N.J.) made seven saves in defeat.

Farmingdale State will now travel to face Skyline opponent the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 p.m.
