Cegielski Scores Five as Rams Defeat Hartwick

Oneonta, N.Y. - Freshman attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) scored a career-high five goals as Farmingdale State earned a 10-6 win at Harwick in a non-conference men's lacrosse game this afternoon. The Rams improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Hawks fell to 0-2.

With 9:39 remaining in the first period, Farmingdale State struck first with an unassisted goal by Cegielski and only 1:15 later, they increased their lead to 2-0 on a score by sophomore attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.).

After a Hartwick goal, Cegielski tallied his second of the game with 25 seconds left in the first period to put Farmingdale State ahead, 3-1.

The Rams used a goal by senior midfielder Mike Strebel (East Northport, N.Y.) followed by back-to-back from Cegielski to extend the lead to 6-1 with 4:55 remaining in the first half. The Hawks responded with two consecutive scores from senior attack Roy Simmons (Fayetteville, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Farmingdale State took a 7-3 lead into halftime after Rifice closed the first half with a man-up goal off the feed from Philip Schaefer* (Holbrook, N.Y.).

Each team had one goal in third as the Rams held a four goal advantage entering the final period.

An unassisted goal by Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Nicholas Casazza (Seaford, N.Y.) with 7:36 left in the game put the Rams ahead by five, 9-4. Two minutes later, Cegielski's fifth goal of the contest opened up a 10-4 lead for the Rams.

Hartwick added two late scores but the Rams earned the 10-6 non-conference victory.

Rifice recorded a game-high six points on two goals and four assists, while senior midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) was an impressive 15-for-17 on faceoffs.

Hartwick was led by sophomore midfielder Jacob Sasche (Baltimore, MD) who scored a team-high three goals.

Junior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots in the win, while junior Mike Rourke (Long Beach, N.Y.) also had 10 saves for the Hawks.

The Rams next will head to Roger Williams for a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 17th at 7:00 p.m.
