Rams Drop First Conference Game of Season

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team dropped their first Skyline Conference game of the season after falling 12-6 to Kean University this afternoon. The Rams now stand at 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the Skyline, while the Cougars improved to 12-1, 3-0.

Kean led 1-0 after the first period and scored five unanswered goals in the second to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.

Two quick Cougars goals in the first 4:15 of the third period extended their advantage to 8-0. Farmingdale State answered with an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) and a man-up score by sophomore attack Matthew Finn (Huntington Station, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 8-2. Kean outscored the Rams 3-1 over the final 6:09 of the third to take an 11-3 lead into the fourth period.

Farmingdale State scored three of the games final four goals but fell 12-6.

Finn scored two goals, while Devaney had a goal, an assist and a game-high 11 ground balls. Senior midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) tallied three assists and freshman goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots for the Rams.

The Cougars were led by senior attack Sean Bobal (Clinton, N.J.) and junior attack Richard Cheifitz (Fair Lawn, N.J.) who each had three goals and an assist. Junior goalie Dino Vitale (Ambler, Penn.) recorded 13 saves in the victory.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, April 13th at 1:00 p.m.
