Finn Leads Rams in Conference Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore attack Matthew Finn (Huntington Station, N.Y.) scored nine goals for Farmingdale State as they defeated Maritime College 15-5 today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 3-4 overall, 1-0 in Skyline play with the win, while the Privateers fell to 3-7, 0-1 with the loss.

Finn opened the scoring with 4:49 left in the first, a man-up goal assisted by sophomore midfielder Mike Strebel (Northport, N.Y.) for the 1-0 Rams lead. Maritime's freshman midfielder Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y.) tied the game at 1-1 with 46 seconds left in the period.

In the second, Farmingdale State went up 2-1 with a power play goal by senior midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Finn put his team up 3-1 with a goal at 5:44. Maritime cut the deficit to 3-2 at 4:18, before Finn scored his third goal of the day with 2:50 remaining in the half and the Rams led 4-2 at the break.

Farmingdale State shut out the Privateers in the third period, scoring five more and then starting the fourth with a goal to lead 10-2 with 14:36 left in regulation. The Rams held Maritime to just three goals the rest of the way to secure the conference victory.

Finn's nine goals is third best in program history, the school record of 11 goals in a game is held by Matthew Lott (2003). Sophomore midfielder Mike Strebel (Northport, N.Y.) had a game-high six assists, along with one goal. Defensively, senior long stick middie Ricky Morales (Holbrook, N.Y.) picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers, while sophomore defender Matthew Scro (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) made 10 saves for the win.

Farmingdale State will now travel to face Stockton for a Skyline game on Wednesday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m.
