Farmingdale State - 78; Mount Saint Vincent - 55

RIVERDALE, N.Y. | Senior guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) scored 11 of his game-high 16 points in the second half Wednesday night at the Peter Jay Sharp Center, and was one of four Farmingdale State College players to score in double figures as the Rams remained tied atop the Skyline Conference standings with a convincing 78-55 win at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

FSC (15-7, 10-3 Skyline) got 15 points and a game-best 12 rebounds from senior swingman Nick Hurowitz (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), while classmates Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.; career-high-tying seven assists) and Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.), who made five of his last six field-goal attempts on the night, chipped in with 13 points apiece. McKenzie and Hurowitz each knocked down three long-range efforts, helping the visiting side to a 9-of-18 display (.500) from downtown. Defensively, the Rams limited the host Dolphins (11-11, 7-6) to .286 shooting from the field (20-of-70), including a 1-of-13 showing (.077) from beyond the 3-point arc. Riggins and junior Jovayne Walters (Cambria Hts., N.Y.) each blocked three shots in the low post.

Farmingdale State never trailed in the contest after scoring the first eight points 3:09 into play. After CMSV pulled to within four points at 8-4, the Rams ripped off a 17-4 spurt that was capped by McKenzie's free throw with 8:26 on the clock to push in front, 25-8. The lead swelled to 23 points (35-12) when Powell buried a trifecta at the 4:32 mark, as FSC cruised into halftime with a 40-24 edge.

The Dolphins pulled to within 11 points with 9:06 showing on the clock after a free throw cut Farmingdale State's lead to 54-43, before the Rams defense kept the hosts off the scoreboard for the next 3-plus minutes and pushed their lead as high as 25 points en route to the victory.

Head coach Brendan Twomey's side is next in Skyline action Saturday at 2 p.m., when FSC plays host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center. Prior to the contest, Farmingdale State's men's basketball team will play host to an alumni game at 11 a.m.
