Corey is a 2019 graduate of Valley Stream South High School, where he earned an array of honors including All-County (2017-18, 2018-19), All-Tournament (2018-19), Conference Champion (2017-18, 2018-19) and the Henry Waldinger Award (2018-19). Corey is the son of Sharon and Christopher Powell.

2022-23...All-Skyline Conference Second Team...Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship...two-time Skyline Player of the Week...only FSC player to start in all 28 contests...ranked second on the team in scoring (11.9/gm.), assists (51, tied) and free throws made (74)...scoring average ranked No. 14 in the Skyline, while free-throw percentage ranked seventh.
