Powell Scores 23 Points as Rams Earn Road Win at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. | The FSC men's basketball team cruised to a 74-49 road victory at Sarah Lawrence College behind a career-best 23 points from senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon. Farmingdale State improved to 13-6 and 8-2 in the Skyline, while the Gryphons fell to 5-14, 3-7.

The Rams opened the game with a 3-pointer and jumper by Powell to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead.

Following a basket by Sarah Lawrence, senior forward Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) made a pair of baskets to go in front by seven, 9-2.

FSC led 21-17 with 6:30 to play in the first half, before a 3-pointer by Hurowitz, dunk from senior forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) and a Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) jumper put the Rams ahead, 28-17.

Farmingdale State closed the half on a 10-3 run, including nine consecutive points by Powell, to take a commanding 38-20 lead into the break.

The Rams held a 17-point advantage, 46-29, just 4:05 into the second half and went on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 24-point lead, 55-31.

After a layup and 3-pointer by the Gryphons, Powell connected on a turn-around jumper, a pull-up jumper and a 3-pointer to increase the lead to 62-36 with 10:49 to play.

FSC was outscored 13-12 down the stretch as they went on for the 74-49 victory.

Powell matched his career-high with 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field, including 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Hurowitz finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Riggins and freshman forward Macai John (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tallied seven points apiece. Freshman guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored five points off the bench and Santos added two points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Jaden Barwicki (Island Park, N.Y.) and Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) each added four points in the win.

Farmingdale State next plays host to Purchase College on Tuesday, January 31st at 8:00 p.m.
