Men's Basketball Cruises to Non-Conference Win Versus Brooklyn

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC men's basketball team welcomed Brooklyn College to Farmingdale, N.Y. on Tuesday evening for a non-conference game and cruised to an 89-63 victory. The Rams improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-6 overall. 

FSC led 8-6 only five minutes in and used back-to-back layups by senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and one from Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) to go in front, 14-6.

The Rams held a five-point edge midway through the first half before a layup by freshman guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) and 3-pointers from Powell and senior guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State ahead by 13, 27-14.

After the Bulldogs cut their deficit to nine, 31-22, with 4:59 on the clock, a 9-0 Farmingdale State run, including a pair of baskets from junior forward Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.), gave FSC a commanding 18-point advantage.

The Rams took a 19-point lead, 45-26, into the halftime break and opened the second with an Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) 3-pointer to go up by 22.

Leading 53-33, Hurowitz scored six straight points in a 6-2 run for the Rams to go in front, 60-35.

FSC led 60-37 with 14 minutes remaining and used a Notias layup and a McKenzie 3-pointer to take a 28-point advantage, their largest of the game. 

Farmingdale State maintained at least a 20-point lead the remainder of the game as they went on for the 89-63 victory.

Powell led the way with 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting, to go along with four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Hurowitz and McKenzie notched 13 points and three rebounds apiece, while Davis finished with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied five points, seven rebounds and eight assists, Walters recorded six points, four rebounds and two blocks and Notias produced nine points, three rebounds and four assists off the bench. Junior guard Jaden Barwicki (Island Park, N.Y.) had eight points and three rebounds, while forwards James Cosgrove (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Bryan Peña (Merrick, N.Y.) added four and three points, respectively. 

The Rams had 25 assists as a team, a mark that ranks tied for fifth on the all-time list. They shot 36-for-75 (.480) from the field and 11-for-25 (.440) from 3-point range.

Elisha Park recorded a game-high 26 points for Brooklyn.

The Rams next head on the road to play non-conference opponent Wesleyan University on Saturday, November 26th at 2:00 p.m.
