Riggins' Double-Double Leads Rams to Overtime Win Versus Ramapo

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Farmingdale State men's basketball team to a 74-68 overtime victory against non-conference opponent Ramapo on Saturday afternoon. Riggins tallied eight of the Rams 13 points in the overtime period.

After the Roadrunners (0-1) jumped out to an 11-4 advantage, a 6-2 run by FSC (1-1), including a trio of points from both freshman guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Riggins, closed the gap to three.

Still down by three, 15-12, back-to-back layups from guards Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Jaden Barwicki (Island Park, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State in front, 16-15.

Ramapo responded with a pair of baskets from Peter Gorman, before another Notias 3-pointer knotted the score at 19-19.

The Rams took a 35-33 advantage into the halftime break behind eight points from Notias and six each from Barwicki, Davis and Riggins.

FSC increased their lead to six, 43-37, after a pair of layups from senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) with 13:21 left to play.

Gorman answered with two straight baskets to close within two, but a 7-2 run by Farmingdale State, capped off by a Davis 3-pointer, put the Rams in front, 50-43.

Ramapo was down 57-50 with 5:47 remaining and scored six unanswered points to cut their deficit to just one.

Still down one, 61-60, with 1:31 to play, Roadrunners Shane Rooney was fouled and hit 1-of-2 at the line to tie the score.

Both teams missed shots in the final seconds as the game entered overtime knotted at 61-61.

Riggins opened the OT period with two free-throws before Ramapo responded with a made jumper. 

Riggins followed with a layup and a free-throw to put FSC in front, 66-63.

Leading 66-65, senior guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer to give Farmingdale State a four-point edge.

After three free-throws by the Roadrunners, Riggins made a layup, drew a foul and hit the free-throw to put the Rams ahead, 72-68, with 43 seconds to play.

On Ramapo's next possession, Powell stole the ball before junior guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) was fouled and hit both at the line to account for the 74-68 final score.

To go along with his double-double, Riggins tallied three blocks and a steal on the defensive end. Powell finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, a steal and a career-best three blocks, while Notias registered 10 points, four rebounds and a team-high three steals.

Davis added nine points off the bench for FSC and junior forward Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) notched eight points and six boards. Santos produced three points, three rebounds and six assists in the win.

Gorman led the way for Ramapo with 22 points and eight rebounds.

The Rams will next travel to Skyline Conference opponent Yeshiva University for a game on Saturday, November 19th at 8:30 p.m.
