Rams Take Non-Conference Win over Baruch

Farmingdale State - 66, Baruch College - 57


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 2-1 overall tonight with a 66-57 non-conference victory over Baruch (1-3). Rams junior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with game-high of 25 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.

Farmingdale State went up 8-0 over the first four minutes, before the Bearcats' Adam Elfassi (New York, N.Y.) got the Bearcats on the board with two free throws. The Rams stayed on top over the next ten minutes and led by six with 1:08 to play in the first, before Baruch closed out the half with four points. The Rams led 27-25 at the half.

In the second, the Bearcats took their first lead of the game on a Justin Giryluk (Bayside, N.Y.) layup for a 30-29 advantage with 16:45 left to play. Senior forward Ryan Tierney (Wantagh, N.Y.) sank a jumper to put the Rams ahead, 31-30, and Farmingdale State would not trail the rest of the way as they shot 52-percent from the field in the half.

For the Rams in scoring, senior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y.) finished with 14 points, six assists, four steals ans six rebounds. Senior guard Dyshaun Flournoy (Brentwood, N.Y.) had eight points, three blocks and three steals. Freshman forward Ibrahim Johnson (New York, N.Y.) had seven points and four boards.

Baruch senior forward Nate Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a double-double of 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Senior guard Chris Beauchamp (Glendale, N.Y.) had 13 points.

The Rams will now face Cobleskill in the Hamilton College Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday, November 26th at 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, November 26th, they face either Hamilton or Berkeley at 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. Live stats and Live Video are available for both days.
