The men’s basketball team finished with a 23-6 record under second year head coach Erik Smiles. The Rams received multiple Skyline awards this year, after winning the schools first-ever Skyline Conference Championship. Senior Kenny McMillan was named Player of the Year for the second year in a row and First Team All-Skyline, freshman Daimien Santana was named Co-Rookie of the Year, senior Dashawn Warren was name Skyline Championship MVP and First Team All-Skyline and Coach Smiles was named Skyline Coach of the Year for the second straight season. By winning the conference championship, the Rams received an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, their first-ever in program history. They defeated Ursinus College in the first-round, but fell in the second-round to the eventual Division III Champions, Virginia-Wesleyan University. The team had three Top-10 National rankings. Sophomore guard Peter Lipka led the nation in 3-point field goal percentage, the Rams ranked 4th in 3-point field-goal percentage, and senior Kenny McMillan was ranked 7th in rebounds per game...

Sterling, Va. - Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted several times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 596 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players, to insure balance.

Farmingdale, NY - Senior forward Kenny McMillan (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) was named to the 2006 National Association of Basketball Coaches' Atlantic All-District First Team. McMillan led the Skyline Conference with 11.3 rebounds per game and is currently the all-time leading scorer at Farmingdale State. Junior guard Mike Hoyt from Mt. St. Mary's College in Newburgh, NY was the only other Skyline player to receive honors. Hoyt was named to the second team, leading the Skyline Conference in scoring and assists.

Farmingdale State?s best season ever came to an end tonight as they fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 71-63, in second round action of the Division III NCAA Men?s Basketball Tournament at the Batten Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Rams held a seven point lead on the Marlins, who are ranked eighth in Division III, with 6:15 remaining, before Virginia Wesleyan used a 10-point run to take a three-point lead with 2:44 on the clock. Farmingdale could not get any shots to fall in the final minutes and 9-of-10 free-throws for Virginia Wesleyan sealed the victory. Indianapolis, IN - The Division III Men's Basketball Bracket was announced this morning around 8:45am. Five two-team, first-round games will be conducted Thursday, March 2 with the winners advancing to play five teams which received first-round byes on Saturday, March 4. Eleven sites will host four teams for first- and second-round competition Friday-Saturday, March 3-4. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional-round sites March 10-11. Winners of the four sectional games will advance to the finals March 17 and 18. All games, except the finals, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The finals will be conducted at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia. The Rams (22-5) have received a first round match-up against Ursinus (21-6) in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Salem, VA - The 59 teams selected to the NCAA Division III Tournament have been released tonight, Sunday, February 26th. The Tournament consists of three pools which the Selection Committee uses to make the picks each year; Pool A (the Automatic Qualifiers), Pool B (independents or schools who can't receive an AQ) and Pool C (top schools in the country who lost in their conference tourneys and did not receive the AQ). Our Skyline Champion Farmingdale State Rams (22-5) were one of the 37 teams who received an automatic bid into the tournament, Pool B had four selections and Pool C had 18 selections. The Rams won their first regular-season tournament at Roanoke College in December as they defeated Wesleyan (Conn.) and Fisk to take the Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic Championship. They carried their conference win streak to 22-consecutive games - dating from February 14th, 2004 until January 30th, 2006. The top seeded men's basketball team will be hosting #5 seed Stevens at 7pm in Farmingdale, NY. The Rams defeated Kings Point on Tuesday night, 98-72, to advance to the semifinals, while the Ducks defeated #4 seed St. Joseph's 77-68 in Patchogue, NY. Just a few weeks ago, the Rams defeated Stevens 91-73 to clinch the top seed in the Playoffs. Senior Kenny McMillan (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) led the team with game-highs of 37 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals. McMillan averaged 28.7 points, 15 rebounds and 6.3 steals in leading Farmingdale State to a 3-0 week. In the two conference victories, he averaged 39.5 points and seven steals. Farmingdale State held a 6-point lead at the half, but St. Joseph's showed no signs of giving up. After starting off 2-3 overall, they won two conference games to get over the .500 hump at 4-3 and then won their first-ever regular-season tournament, the Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic, on December 30th to go into the break with a 6-3 overall record. McMillan averaged 23.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two games for Farmingdale State University last week.
