Farmingdale State - 3, Mount Saint Mary - 0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-16)
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Cathleen Farrell (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded her first double-double of the 2022 season with 15 kills and 11 digs to lead the FSC women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday evening. Farmingdale State improved to 1-1 in Skyline Conference play, while the Knights suffered their first loss in league play and are now 2-1.
With the score tied at 9-9 in the first set, FSC (2-7) went on a 16-6 run, including four kills apiece from Farrell and junior middle blocker Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.), to earn a 25-15 win.
Farmingdale State led by just one, 19-18, in set two but closed with six unanswered points. Farrell had a kill and two service aces, before a block from freshman Kaleigh Farrell (Holbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore Mikayla Profeta (Knoxville, TN) put the Rams in front, 23-18. FSC ended the set with a MSMC error and a kill from senior outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) to pick up the 25-18 victory.
After the Knights (7-5) jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third, FSC cruised to a 25-16 win to clinch the 3-0 sweep.
C. Farrell matched her career-highs with 15 kills and four service aces and finished with a match-high 19 points. Ricketts tallied 12 kills on a .455 hitting percentage, while Profeta recorded a career-best .538 hitting percentage and had eight kills and five aces. Senior setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) notched a season-high 21 assists and Flamio registered four kills, seven digs and three aces. Lana Ventura (Port Washington, N.Y.) added 10 assists, while Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) tallied nine digs.
Mount Saint Mary was led by senior outside hitter Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.), who had a team-high 12 kills and 15 digs.
The Rams next will play host to Purchase College for a Skyline Conference match on Thursday, September 29th at 7:00 p.m.
