Rams Fall to Stevens and Manhattanville at Red & Gray Invite

Match 2: Manhattanville - 3, Farmingdale State - 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15)


Hoboken, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to Stevens Institute of Technology for the Red & Gray Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Rams fell to the hosts, 3-1, before dropping a non-conference match to Manhattanville, 3-0.

In their first match, the Rams (1-7) held a 20-15 advantage in the first set, but was outscored, 10-2, as Stevens took a 1-0 lead.

FSC led 24-22 in the second set, but were unable to capture the clinching point as the Ducks (10-4) used a pair of Rams errors and kills from Elle Maggio (Denver, CO) and Cleo Shannon (Charlotte, N.C.) to win 26-24.

Farmingdale State took the third set, 26-24, as a Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) kill and Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) ace closed the set.

Stevens would take the fourth set by a score of 25-19 to earn the 3-1 victory.

Ricketts recorded a career-best 18 kills on a .216 hitting percentage, to go along with a match-high five blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Mikayla Profeta (Knoxville, TN) notched seven kills and five service aces, while senior outside hitter Cathleen Farrell (Bayport, N.Y.) had seven kills and six digs. Junior Madeline Stanley (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) recorded four kills and three blocks and senior Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) tallied four kills and a team-high 12 digs. Setters Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Lana Ventura (Port Washington, N.Y.) passed 18 and 15 assists, respectively. Freshman middle blocker Kaleigh Farrell (Holbrook, N.Y.) added three kills on four attempts (.750 hitting percentage).

For the Ducks, junior middle Meg Dion (West Chester, PA) recorded 16.5 points on nine kills, four aces and seven block assists.

In the second match against Manhattanville (8-2), the Valiants won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18 and 25-15.

Farrell and Ricketts tallied eight and seven kills, respectively, while Pozo recorded a match-high 11 digs.

The Valiants were led by Loren Hernandez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico), who finished with 14 kills, three aces and seven digs.

FSC next plays host to Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m.
