Profeta Leads Rams Past Mount Saint Mary

Farmingdale State - 3, Mount Saint Mary - 1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23)


Newburgh, N.Y. - Freshman middle blocker Mikayla Profeta (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied a career-best 19 kills and a .536 attacking percentage to lead the FSC women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday evening. The Rams improved to 6-8 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Knights fell to 8-7, 2-2.

Mount Saint Mary came out quickly in the first set, taking a 13-2 advantage en route to a 25-18 win. 

In the second set, the Rams led 24-22 and used a kill by Profeta, from freshman setter Molly Miller (East Northport, N.Y.), to take the set and tie the match at 1-1.

With Farmingdale State ahead 22-21 in the third, freshman middle blocker Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) recorded a kill before a MSMC attacking error put the Rams on top, 24-21. The final point of the set came on a block from Ricketts and freshman outside Madeline Stanley (Massapequa Park, N.Y.). 

FSC clinched the match with a 25-23 victory in the fourth set as they went on for the 3-1 Skyline Conference win.

Profeta's .536 attacking percentage ranks seventh in school history for a single match (min. 20 attempts), while her 19 kills ranks 10th all-time for a four-set match. Ricketts finished with 12 kills and a match-high five blocks (two solo). Junior outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) recorded 12 kills and 21 digs, junior libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) tallied 15 digs and junior outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished with five kills, two service aces and six digs. Miller and sophomore setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) registered 23 and 22 assists, respectively.

The Rams next will travel to Purchase College for a conference match on Thursday, September 30th at 7:00 p.m.
