Rams Drop Pair at Montclair State Tri-Match

Match 1: Montclair State - 3, Farmingdale State - 1 (25-10, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20)

Match 2: New Paltz - 3, Farmingdale State - 0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-12)


Montclair, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team squared off against Montclair State and New Paltz this afternoon at the Montclair State tri-match. The Rams fell to the host Red Hawks 3-1 and were defeated 3-0 by New Paltz in their second match of the day.

Montclair State (4-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Rams (3-7) earned a 25-19 victory in the third set. The Red Hawks closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.

Farmingdale State was led by junior outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) who had eight kills, 14 digs and three service aces, while junior outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) tallied a team-high nine kills. Sophomore setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and freshman setter Molly Miller (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded 19 and 11 assists, respectively.

For Montclair State, senior outside Leah Higgins (Leonia, N.Y.) had a match-high 19 kills, while freshman outside Kiara Polanco (Bogota, N.J.) notched 17 kills. Senior setter Delaney St. Pierre (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 40 assists and six kills in the win for the Red Hawks.

In the second match against New Paltz (5-6), the Hawks earned the straight set win with scores of 25-8, 25-18 and 25-12.

FSC freshman Cathleen Farrell (Bayport, N.Y.) and freshman middle blocker Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) each recorded a team-high six kills. Ricketts also had a match-high three blocks in the loss.

New Paltz was led by junior right side Makenzie Bills (Farmington, N.Y.) who had a match-high 11 kills on 26 attempts for a .385 attacking percentage.

The Rams next will host Merchant Marine for their Skyline Conference opener on Thursday, September 23rd at 7:00 p.m.
