Rams Fall in Road Match at Western Connecticut

Western Connecticut - 3, Farmingdale State - 0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-22)


Danbury, Conn. - The FSC women's volleyball team traveled to Western Connecticut State for a non-conference match on Wednesday evening and fell, 3-0. 

In the first set, Farmingdale State (0-3) trailed 12-6, and used five straight points, including two kills from freshman middle Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.), to close within one at 12-11. WestConn (3-2) would respond and close the set on a 13-6 run to take a 1-0 advantage. 

After dropping the second set, 25-15, the Rams led, 14-10, in the third set. Western Connecticut would tally 11 of the next 14 points to go in front, 21-17.

Leading 24-22, WestConn earned the third set victory on an FSC service error as they went on for the 3-0 sweep.

Ricketts led the way for Farmingdale State recording a team-high eight kills and two blocks. Freshman outside Cathleen Farrell (Bayport, N.Y.) notched six kills and five digs, while junior outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) registered five kills and five digs. Sophomore setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had 18 assists in the loss.

WestConn was led by senior middle hitter Abbi Debes (New Milford, Conn.), who tallied a match-high 14 kills and a .571 hitting percentage.

FSC next will head to the Wheaton College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 10-11. The Rams will play Middlebury, followed by Rhode Island, on Friday starting at 6:00 p.m.
