Rams Drop Pair to Eastern Connecticut

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team hosted non-conference opponent Eastern Connecticut for a pair of matches this afternoon. The Rams fell 3-1 in the first match and dropped the second, 3-1.

In the first match, the Warriors (3-0) won the first two sets before Farmingdale State (0-2) answered with a 25-20 victory in the third. Eastern Connecticut went on for a 25-12 win in the fourth set to close out the match.

FSC was led by junior outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) who recorded a team-high nine kills and added 14 digs, while freshman outside Cathleen Farrell (Bayport, N.Y.) also tallied nine kills. Junior libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) had a team-leading 15 digs and junior outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) had six kills and 12 digs. Freshman setter Lana Ventura (Port Washington, N.Y.) notched 27 assists in the loss for the Rams.

ECSU's middle blocker Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.) had a match-high 14 kills on 26 attacks for a .423 attacking percentage. Senior outside Paula Perez (Caguas, P.R.) had a match-high 16 digs, while senior setter Meg Verizzi (Lebanon, Conn.) led the way with 35 assists and 12 digs in the victory.

In the second match, the Warriors recorded 25-12 and 25-20 victories in the first two sets to take a 2-0 advantage. Tied at 24-24 in the third set, Farmingdale State used a kill from Flamio and a solo block from freshman middle Mikayla Profeta (West Islip, N.Y.) to clinch the set and cut their deficit to 2-1.

Eastern Connecticut took the fourth set, 25-16, as they went on for the 3-1 win.

Pozo recorded a match-high 29 digs, to go along with two serving aces, while Ventura tallied 30 assists. Farrell had a team-high nine kills, Flamio registered six kills and 11 digs, and freshman middle Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) notched six kills and three blocks in the loss.

Senior outside hitters Abby Stern (Manchester, Conn.) and Alaetra Long (Lincoln, Mass.) totaled 17 and 16 kills, respectively, in the victory for the Warriors.

FSC next will travel to Western Connecticut for a non-conference match on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m.
