Top-Seeded Manhattanville Outlasts Rams in Skyline Semifinals

#1 Manhattanville - 3, #5 Farmingdale State - 2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-8)


Purchase, N.Y. - The fifth-seeded Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to #1 Manhattanville this evening in the Semifinals of the Skyline Conference Championship and lost, 3-2. With the match knotted at 2-2, the Valiants (23-5) picked up a 15-8 victory in the deciding fifth set to earn their spot in the Skyline Final on Saturday.

After cruising to a 25-15 win in the opening set, Manhattanville led 23-20 in the second set before FSC (16-14) closed with five straight points to win, 25-23, and tie the match at 1-1.

The Valiants answered with another 25-15 victory in the third set, but the Rams bounced back with a 25-19 win in the fourth set to knot the match at 2-2.

Tied at 4-4 in the fifth set, the Valiants used a kill and a service ace to take a two-point edge. After a kill from FSC sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) cut their deficit to just one, Manhattanville tallied three kills and an ace to go in front, 10-5.

The Valiants outscored Farmingdale State, 5-3, the rest of the way as they won the set, 15-8, and the match, 3-2.

McCartin recorded her second straight double-double for FSC as she finished with 10 kills and 12 digs. Senior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) ended with 10 kills and a season-high seven blocks, while sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) had 10 kills and eight digs. Freshman setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) tallied 21 assists, sophomore libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) produced 18 digs and freshman middle blocker Ca'Marai Clyburn (Wheatly Heights, N.Y.) recorded a career-high four blocks in defeat.

Manhattanville was led by senior outside hitter Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and freshman right side Felicity Hoffert (Smithtown, N.Y.) who registered 22 kills apiece in the win.
