Cavalieri, Pozo Lead FSC to Sweep of St. Joe's-Brooklyn

Farmingdale State - 3, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-22)


Brooklyn, N.Y. - Freshman setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) recorded 37 assists and sophomore libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) tallied 25 digs to lead the Farmingdale State women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Monday night. Cavalieri broke the school record for assists in a three-set match, while Pozo registered the second-most digs in three sets all-time. FSC improved to 13-12 on the season and 5-3 in the conference, while the Bears fell to 7-9, 4-4.

Tied at 10-10 in the first set, the Rams went on a 14-4 run, including four kills from sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.), to take a commanding 24-14 advantage. After SJC-BK won the next three points, Farmingdale State closed the set with a kill from McCartin to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, the Bears needed just one point as they were up 24-22, but FSC used kills from McCartin and sophomore middle blocker Dalia Cleckley (Rosedale, N.Y.) to knot the set at 24-24. The Rams followed with back-to-back kills from sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) to capture the set, 26-24, and go in front, 2-0.

In set three, Farmingdale State held a 24-16 lead before St. Joseph's-Brooklyn tallied six straight points to cut their deficit to just two at 24-22. On the ensuing serve, FSC won the set with kill from McCartin, 25-22, to earn the 3-0 sweep.

In addition to her 37 assists, Cavalieri had 12 digs, two kills and one block, while McCartin notched a double-double with a 14 kills and 11 digs. Along with her 25 digs, Pozo recorded a match-high four service aces to go with three assists. Senior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) tallied 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks and Flamio added 10 kills and eight digs in the victory.

The Rams next host Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island on Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
