Manhattanville Improves to 18-5 With Five Set Win Over FSC

Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to conference opponent Manhattanville College on Thursday evening and lost, 3-2. The Valiants improved to 18-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the conference, while the Rams dropped to an even 12-12 on the season and 4-3 in the Skyline.

Manhattanville opened with a 25-21 win in the first set before FSC tied it up with a 25-23 victory in set two. In the third set, the Valiants took a 2-1 advantage with a 25-16 win, but the Rams answered again as they captured the fourth set, 25-19.

In the deciding fifth set, Manhattanville took a 12-8 lead before four straight errors by the Valiants allowed Farmingdale State to knot the score at 12-12. On the ensuing serve, Manhattanville senior outside Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) tallied a kill to take a one-point advantage. The Valiants would follow with a service ace and another kill from Brauer to close out the set, 15-12, and the match, 3-2.

FSC senior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 22 kills as she held a .383 attacking percentage with six blocks. Voiklis' 22 kills now ranks sixth all-time for kills in a single match at Farmingdale State. Freshman setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) produced a career-high 43 assists, which is tied for sixth all-time, to go along with 11 digs and three kills, while sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) totaled 14 kills, 12 digs, three blocks and two aces. Sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) added six kills and 16 digs for the Rams.

Brauer registered a program-record 35 kills for the Valiants, while freshman setter Vianca Vital (Carolina, Puerto Rico) set a new school record with 53 assists in the win.

FSC next travels to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a Skyline Conference match on Monday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m.
