NYU, Misericordia Defeat Rams in Non-Conference Tri-Match

Match 1: NYU - 3, Farmingdale State - 1 (24-26, 25-11, 25-9, 25-14)

Match 2: Misericordia - 3, Farmingdale State - 0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-20)


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team hosted a non-conference tri-match today and fell to NYU, 3-1, before dropping a match to Misericordia, 3-0. FSC now stands at 12-10 on the season.

Farmingdale State started quickly in their match versus NYU (18-5) as they won the first set, 26-24, to take a 1-0 advantage. The Violets responded with a convincing 25-11 victory in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. NYU was able to capture the third set, 25-9, and the fourth, 25-14, to earn the 3-1 win.

Senior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) led the way for FSC with a team-high 12 kills, .233 hitting percentage and two blocks. Sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) had four kills, nine digs, three assists and two aces. Freshman setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) tallied 20 assists in the loss.

For the Violets, sophomore outside Maddie DeJong (Houston, Tx.) recorded a match-high 17 kills and held a .762 attacking percentage.

In their second match of the day against Misericordia (15-11), the Rams fell in straight sets, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20.

Voiklis tallied a match-high six blocks to go along with a team-high eight kills, while McCartin added four kills and 11 digs. Cavalieri recorded nine assists, five digs and two kills and sophomore libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) notched 11 digs and three assists.

Misericordia senior middle blocker Tara Welliver (Towanda, Penn.) registered a match-high .667 hitting percentage and 14 kills.

Farmingdale State next returns to conference action when they host Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m.
