Rams Earn Conference Win at Mount Saint Mary

Farmingdale State - 3, Mount Saint Mary - 2 (18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-19, 15-9)


Newburgh, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team earned a five-set Skyline Conference win at Mount Saint Mary College on Monday evening. The Rams improved to 11-8 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while the Knights dropped to 7-13, 2-3.

In the first set, MSMC led 20-9 before FSC used a 9-2 run to cut their deficit to three. The Knights were able to capture the next three points on an attacking error and back-to-back service aces to take the set, 25-18. Tied 23-23 in set two, Farmingdale State senior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) tallied a kill before a Mount Saint Mary attacking error to win the set 25-23 and tie the match at 1-1.

After the Knights cruised to a 25-15 win in set three to go in front 2-1, the Rams responded with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set. In the deciding fifth set, FSC jumped out to an 8-1 advantage as sophomore middle blocker Dalia Cleckley (Rosedale, N.Y.) had three kills and a block. Leading 13-9, Farmingdale State used an attacking error by MSMC and a service ace from sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) to take the set, 15-9, and the match, 3-2.

Voiklis ragistered a team-high nine kills and six blocks, while Cleckley and McCartin had seven kills apiece. Sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) had five kills, nine digs, three aces and three blocks and freshman right side Mikayla Dalton (Mineola, N.Y.) recorded five kills. Sophomore libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) notched a team-high 17 digs to go along with three aces and freshman setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) tallied 21 assists in the win.

The FSC women's volleyball team next travels to Purchase College for a conference game on Wednesday, October 9th at 7:30 p.m.
