FSC Defeats Delhi; Falls to MCLA in Tri-Match

Match 2: MCLA - 3, Farmingdale State - 1 (25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20)


Delhi, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to SUNY Delhi this afternoon for a non-conference tri-match and earned a split. The Rams defeated host-school Delhi, 3-0, but fell to MCLA, 3-1.

In their first match, FSC (7-5) led by as many as eight points as they cruised to a 25-19 set one victory. In the second set, Farmingdale State trailed 21-18 before tallying the next seven points to earn the 25-21 win. FSC took the third set 25-14 as they earned the 3-0 sweep.

Sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) led the Rams with a season-high 18 kills, to go along with nine digs, while sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) registered 11 kills, 17 digs and three aces. Senior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) added eight kills and a pair of solo blocks and junior middle blocker Alicja Zaborowska (Copiague, N.Y.) had seven kills, four aces and eight digs. Setters Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Maria Veliz Thol (Queens, N.Y.) registered 23 and 11 assists, respectively, in the win.

In their second match of the day, MCLA (6-4) edged out FSC, 25-23, in the first set before capturing the second, 25-19. The Rams controlled the third set and won, 25-19, but the Trailblazers rebounded with a 25-20 win in the fourth set to pick up the 3-1 win.

Flamio recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Voiklis produced 11 kills and a season-high six blocks (five solo). McCartin had seven kills and 17 digs, Veliz Thol tallied 27 assists, three kills and nine digs and sophomore libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) added a match-high 21 digs in the loss.

The FSC women's volleyball team next hosts Skyline Conference opponent Yeshiva on Tuesday, September 24th at 7:00 p.m.
