Rams Hold Off William Paterson in Five-Set Victory

Wayne, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to William Paterson University on Tuesday evening and earned a 3-2 win. The Rams jumped out to a 2-0 advantage before the Pioneers tied the match with victories in the third and fourth sets. FSC would hold off the comeback as they captured the fifth set, 15-12, to pick up the non-conference victory.

Leading 1-0 after winning the first set 25-21, the Rams (6-4) trailed William Paterson (4-4) 19-12 in the second but used a 9-2 run to tie the score at 21-21. After the Pioneers took the next three points, Farmingdale State used kills from both sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) and junior middle blocker Alicja Zaborowska (Copiague, N.Y.) as well as a trio of William Paterson errors to earn the 26-24 victory.

The Pioneers stormed back with 25-21 and 25-19 victories in the third and fourth sets, respectively, to knot the match at 2-2.

With FSC leading 13-12 in the fifth set, Flamio recorded a kill before Zaborowska tallied a service ace to clinch the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.

Flamio finished with 14 kills and 18 digs, while Zaborowska had 14 kills and two service aces. Sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) produced a match-high 21 kills to go along with 17 digs and senior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) added 13 kills and held a .478 attacking percentage. Junior Maria Veliz Thol (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) split time as the primary setter and recorded 31 and 28 assists, respectively.

The Rams next travel to SUNY Delhi for a non-conference tri-match on Sunday, September 22nd starting at 11:00 a.m. Farmingdale State will first play Delhi and follow with a match against MCLA.
