Western Connecticut Earns Four-Set Win Over FSC

Western Connecticut - 3, Farmingdale State - 1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-13)


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team fell, 3-1, to non-conference opponent Western Connecticut State this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams dropped to 7-20 on the year, while the Colonials improved to 13-9.

After winning the first set 25-14, Western Connecticut took a 9-5 lead in the second but FSC responded by scoring 11 of the next 13 points to open up a 16-11 advantage. Leading 18-13, the Rams used a kill by senior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) and back-to-back WCSU attacking errors to go up by eight. FSC would go on to win the second set, 25-19. The Colonials defeated Farmingdale State 25-17 and 25-13  in the third and fourth sets, respectively, to close out the 3-1 win.

Cosgrave paced the Rams with seven kills, 11 digs and five blocks, while junior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) had five kills, nine digs and a match-high six blocks. Freshman libero Kellianne Dempsey (Lake Grove, N.Y.) finished the night with 11 digs in the four-set loss.

Senior outside Kamari King (East Hartford, Conn.) tallied a match-high 15 kills to go along with 13 digs and senior middle blocker Mikayla Aubry (Fresno, Calif.) added 10 kills. Senior setter Jenna Skerritt (Wolcott, Conn.) had match-highs in assists (34), digs (14) and aces (5) for the Colonials.

FSC next will compete in a Skyline Conference tri-match on Sunday, October 21st hosted by Maritime College. Farmingdale State will first square off with Merchant Marine at 1:00 p.m. and follow with a match against Maritime at 3:00 p.m.
