FSC Edges Old Westbury in Conference Match

Farmingdale State - 3, Old Westbury - 1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23)


Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference match on Tuesday night and won, 3-1. With the win, the Rams improved to 7-16 and 4-1 in conference play.

In the first set, FSC trailed, 17-15, but tallied four straight points to take a two-point advantage, 19-17. Farmingdale State outscored the Panthers (4-13, 3-3 Skyline) 6-3 the rest of the way to capture the first set, 25-21. In set two, OW jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never relinquished the lead as they won, 25-20, to tie the score at 1-1.

In the third set, the Rams led by two, 20-18, before back-to-back kills by freshman middle blocker Dalia Cleckley (Laurelton, N.Y.) and senior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) opened up a four-point edge, 22-18. FSC would win the third set 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead, but would trail late in the fourth, 23-17. The Rams responded by tallying the next eight points, including three kills from junior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.), to capture the set, 25-23, and win the match, 3-1.

Voiklis registered a season-high 13 kills, while Cosgrave ended with 11 kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Cleckley recorded a career-high nine kills to go along with three blocks and freshman outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) added eight kills and 16 digs. Rams freshman setter Angie Yarrow (Absecon, N.J.) tallied match-high's with 35 assists and four aces.

Junior setter Kyraleigh Zinnel (Levittown, N.Y.) led the way for Old Westbury registering 21 assists and 13 digs in the loss.

FSC next hosts St. Joseph's-Long Island for a conference match on Thursday, October 11th at 6:00 p.m.
