Norton, Mass. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team played two matches today on the final day of the Wheaton Invitational and fell in both, 3-0.
The Rams (1-8) first played Middlebury (2-0) and dropped three straight sets by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-6, before being swept by Worcester State (2-5), 25-8, 25-20 and 25-15.
FSC junior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) led the way against the Panthers as she recorded five kills, while senior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) pitched in with three kills. Freshman outside Mariel Tavares (Copiague, N.Y.) and freshman setter Angie Yarrow (Absecon, N.J.) totaled 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Senior outside Isabel Sessions (Chicago, Ill.) paced Middlebury with a game-high 14 kills to go along with 12 digs, while senior middle Sarah Staver (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) added 13 kills and three blocks. Sophomore setter Emma Walsh (Wichita, Kan.) recorded game-highs in both assists (27) and service aces (3) in the victory.
In the second match versus the Lancers, Tavares and Cosgrave each notched a team-high three kills and Yarrow added 11 assists for the Rams.
For Worcester State, freshman outside Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.) led the way with a game-high eight kills.
Farmingdale State next will play host to The College of Staten Island in a non-conference match on Tuesday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m.
