Haverford, Penn. - At the first day of the Haverford Invitational, the Farmingdale State women's volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Bethany College (W.V.) before falling to host school Haverford, 3-0.
In the match against Bethany (1-0), the Rams dropped the opening set 25-17 and were defeated 25-13 and 25-22 in the second and third, respectively. Farmingdale State was led by senior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) who recorded a team-high six kills to go along with nine digs, while freshman libero Kellianne Dempsey (Lake Grove, N.Y.) tallied a match-leading 14 digs. Freshman setter Angie Yarrow (Absecon, N.J.) pitched in with 11 assists and seven digs for FSC.
Junior outside Katie Sparks (Macedonia, Ohio) notched a match-high 13 kills and added 11 digs for the Bison, while sophomore setter Jenna Scott (New Castle, Ind.) had 29 assists in the 3-0 victory.
In their second match of the day, Haverford (1-0) won in straight sets with scores of 25-6, 25-21, and 25-15.
For Farmingdale State, Cosgrave led the way with five kills, while junior middle blocker Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) and freshman outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) each had three kills.
Senior outside Natalie Pisch (Blue Bell, Penn.) paced the Fords with a match-high 13 kills and sophomore setter Sydney Miller (Phoenix, Ariz.) totalled a match-high 29 assists in the 3-0 win.
FSC returns to action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. against Bard and will follow with a match versus Goucher at 2:00 p.m. at the final day of the Haverford Invitational.
