Rams Earn 3-1 Victory at Western Connecticut

Farmingdale State - 3, Western Connecticut - 1 (28-30, 26-24, 25-14, 25-22)


Danbury, Conn. - After falling in the first set, 28-30, and trailing late in the second, the Farmingdale State women's volleyball team stormed back to secure a 3-1 non-conference victory over Western Connecticut on Wednesday evening. The Rams improved to 2-0 this season, while the Colonials now sit at 1-4 on the year.

Tied 14-14 in the third set, the Rams scored the final 11 points to take a 2-1 advantage heading into set four.

After the Colonials jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in the fourth, the Rams quickly countered with a 10-3 run, including a pair of service aces by both junior outside Meaghan Moran (Islip, N.Y.) and senior middle blocker Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.), to take a four point advantage, 15-11. FSC would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way as they earned the set and match victory.

The Rams were led by sophomore setter Julia Hande (Islip, N.Y.) who recorded nine kills, 23 assists and a game-high 14 digs, while junior outside Annie Cosgrave (Brightwaters, N.Y.) added nine kills and 10 digs. Cadle-Hinton totaled nine kills, three solo blocks and nine assisted blocks in the win.

Junior outside Kamari King (East Hartford, Conn.) produced a match-high 17 kills, while junior setter Jenna Skerritt (Wolcott, Conn.) tallied 34 assists in the loss for Western Connecticut.

Farmingdale State next hosts non-conference opponents Ramapo and Manhattanville for a tri-match on Saturday, September 9th starting at 10:00 a.m.
