Rams Fall to Eastern in NCAA First Round

#13 Eastern - 3, Farmingdale State - 0 (25-16, 25-12, 26-24)


Hoboken, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team traveled to Stevens for the NCAA Tournament First Round but fell 3-0 to No. 13 Eastern (30-5). The Rams finish the season 19-8 after claiming the first-ever Skyline Championship in program history.

Farmingdale State stayed within striking distance in the early part of the opening set. Senior middle blocker Barbara Wright (Farmingdale, N.Y.) put the Rams within two points, 15-13. Eastern won the next 6-of-7 points to hold a seven point advantage (21-14) and took the first victory, 25-16.

Eastern hit .556 in the second set, en route to a 25-12 win.

In the third set, Farmingdale State jumped out to a 10-5 lead and increased the lead to 14-8 on a kill by sophomore Annie Cosgrave (Bay Shore, N.Y.). Serving ahead 24-23, the Rams had a chance to take the set but Eastern's Stephanie Elechko (Lansdale, Pa.) tied it 24-24 and the Eagles would win the next two points for the third set victory, 26-24.

For the match, freshman setter Julia Hande (Islip, N.Y.) and junior middle blocker Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) led the team with seven kills each. Junior libero Stephanie Etersque (Deer Park, N.Y.) posted a team-high nine digs in the match. The Rams posted 16 block assists in the match.
