FSC Defeats Sage; Falls to Maritime in Tri-Match

Game 1: Maritime - 3, Farmingdale State - 2 (11-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-19, 15-12)

Game 2: Farmingdale State - 3, Sage - 0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-13)


Garden City, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team hosted a Skyline Conference tri-match this afternoon at Nassau Community College and fell, 3-2, to Maritime before rebounding with a 3-0 victory over Sage.

In the match against Maritime (7-7, 2-2), the Rams (5-4, 3-1) captured the first two sets with scores of 25-11 and 26-24 but the Privateers responded by winning the next three to earn the 3-2 victory.

FSC was led by freshman setter Julia Hande (Islip, N.Y.) who had a team-high 11 kills to go along with 15 assists, nine digs and five blocks. Sophomore outside Annie Cosgrave (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and senior outside Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) tallied 10 and nine kills, respectively, while senior middle blocker Barbara Wright (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had eight kills and a game-high six blocks.

Senior outside Carly Lombardo (Setauket, N.Y.) recorded game-highs in kills (13) and aces (5) in the win for Maritime.

In the match versus Sage (6-10, 1-1), Farmingdale State earned a straight set victory to finish 1-1 on the afternoon. Junior middle blocker Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) posted a .786 attacking percentage as she totaled 11 kills in 14 attempts and added three blocks, while Wright had 10 kills for the Rams.

Sage and Maritime squared off in the other match today and the Gators won, 3-0.

FSC next will compete in the Utica College Tournament where they will face Utica at 2:00 p.m. and Union (NY) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30th.
