Kings Point, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team opened the 2015 season with a 3-0 victory over Pratt before falling 3-0 versus Merchant Marine in Kings Point, N.Y. on Saturday.
In the match against Pratt (0-2), the Rams (1-1) captured the first set 25-10 and followed with 25-22 and 25-20 victories to earn the 3-0 victory.
Farmingdale State was led by junior outside Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) who tallied a game-high 15 kills to go along with 11 digs, three service aces and three blocks. Senior opposite Amanda Masson (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and junior middle blocker Barbara Wright (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each had five kills, while junior middle blocker Katie DeGraff (Amityville, N.Y.) recorded five kills and three blocks. Senior libero Francesca Calderon (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) had a game-high 14 digs and senior setter Megan Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the game with 32 assists.
Merchant Marine (4-0) earned a 3-0 win over Farmingdale State with set scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-22.
Pisciotta recorded a game-high 21 assists, while Hickey had a team-leading six kills. Calderon led the Rams with 12 digs in the match.
Merchant Marine's Brianne Cook (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) finished with a game-high 12 kills and nine assists, while Dominique Pope (Silver Spring, Md.) had 11 kills and seven digs.
Farmingdale State next will travel to John Jay for a non-conference match on Thursday, September 10th at 6:00 p.m.
