Baruch Sweeps Rams in Non-Conference Match

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team were swept by visiting non-conference opponent Baruch College (3-8) tonight. The Rams (4-5) fell in three sets, 27-29, 12-25 and 25-27.

After falling behind 2-0 in a close 29-27 first set and a 25-12 loss in the second set, the Rams were again behind quickly 6-1 in the third set.

Freshman Stephanie Etersque (Deer Park, N.Y.) brought the Rams back serving for seven straight points to help Farmingdale State to an 8-6 lead. The Rams pulled away for a four-point advantage late in the set, 17-13, but Baruch cut their deficit to 19-18. Farmingdale outscored the Bearcats 6-3 over the next nine points to hold game point at 24-22.

The Bearcats took back the serve off an error and then tied the game 24-24. The Rams made it 25-24 on a kill by sophomore middle blocker Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), but Baruch tied the game once more with a kill from senior outside Michelle Stommes (Annandale, Minn.) before she added the final two kills to give the Bearcats the 27-25 win.

Farmingdale State was led by sophomore middle blocker Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) with nine kills, while junior setter Megan Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tabbed 17 assists and eight digs. Junior libero Francesca Calderon (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) posted 16 digs.

For Baruch, junior middle blocker Sydney Parks (Boonsboro, Md.) and junior outside McKenzie Davidson (Rancho Santa Margarita, Cali.) both finished in double-digit kills, while junior libero Amy Sung (Flushing, N.Y.) tallied 25 digs and junior setter Crystle Dela Cruz (Vallejo, Cali.) had 33 assists and 10 digs.

THe Rams will travel to the Purchase Invitational this weekend with two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday.
